Enterprise Filter – Control computer usage within your school.

The Internet is a fabulous source of exchange and information for youngsters and adults alike, however:

School computers accessed by multiple users can be dangerous both for students themselves and for IT equipment: students may meet the wrong person, view inappropriate websites, delete files, change computer settings or perform illegal downloads.

Enterprise Filter enables schools to limit such risks by:
- Filtering users' access to the Internet
- Blocking or filtering messaging systems (e-mails and instant messengers)
- Blocking access to unauthorized software programs and folders
- Filtering downloads (music, videos, images, software programs)
- Scheduling access hours according to class or break hours.

A foolproof filtering engine

Enterprise Filter integrates the ICE technology - an innovating artificial intelligence and data filtering technology which evaluates in a meaningful way all materials to which school students want to access.

Filter Internet sites:

White list – Students only have access to the websites you define. This option is recommended for young children only (mainly primary schools students).

Intelligent filtering – You set the desired sensitivity level for each category: adult sites, gambling sites, chat rooms. Various options are suggested according to the age-group of your students, i.e young child, preteen, teenager, or young adult.

Filter e-mail and instant messenger contacts:

- Specify which e-mail contacts students are allowed to interact with at school (e.g. parents, teachers, other students).
- Select which MSN messenger contacts students are allowed to chat with.
This will prevent them from discussing with people they don't know.
You may also permanently block access to instant messsengers.

Filter languages and countries:

You can allow or block e-mails or webpages viewed by children according to pre-defined languages and countries.

Personal data:

Enterprise Filter also integrates a validation engine for words and strings to prevent children from transmitting contact details or critical data (addresses, phone numbers, etc.)

Search engines and Instant Messengers:

Search engines can sometimes provide unfiltered results and instant messengers can lead children to discuss with perfect strangers - this may put them, as well as your IT environment, at risk.

To prevent students from exchanging contact details and confidential data, you can block most search engines and instant messengers:
- Search engines: Google, Yahoo, Lycos, etc.
- Instant messengers: MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ.
- Filter Live Messenger chat content (MSN).

Filter protocols and downloads:

Web pages, FTP and incoming e-mails are overloaded with interactive content such as images, videos or even music files, which may be dangerous. To reduce legal and IT security risks, you may block some of these protocols:
- HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) used for viewing Web pages
- FTP (File Transfert Protocol) used for sending files
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) used for sending e-mails
- NNTP to block access to discussion groups.

To make sure that students only visit relevant pages and to protect your system against potential viruses found in unwanted files, you can adjust a large number of settings to block files and animations:
- Select blocked extensions for Web pages, file transfers and e-mails:
archives (compressed files), images (jpg, bmp, gif, etc.), videos (mpeg, avi, mov), audio files (wav, MP3, midi, etc.), texts, executables (program files), PDF (e.g. Universal PDF file or Acrobat® Reader) .
- Allow Flash animations, Scripts, Applets and Active X.
This allows you to block interactive content that can display animations or install small programs that may be violent or unsuitable.

Scheduling tool for computer and Internet usage

Computer or Internet access – You may set a schedule that allows users to access the computer or the Internet only during specific hours, thereby preventing unsupervised use, e.g. during breaks.
Similarly, you can allocate "time slots" and define the total amount of time students in your school are allowed to surf the Internet on a weekly, monthly or daily basis, etc.

Block programs and folders

You can prevent students from opening some of your folders to protect your educational work and personal notes. You also have the opportunity to restrict access to particular setting tools (Control Panel) to ensure optimal system performance.

Individual access for each child?

Teachers or leaders may decide to supervise students closely or encourage them to act more responsibly. To respond to this need, Enterprise Filter allows them to create individual profiles for each student or each group of students (workgroup, class, level).

If you associate a Windows username to a class or student account, Enterprise Filter will run automatically and the security levels you have defined will be automatically applied at Windows startup.

Remote connection

If you wish to do so, you can connect to a remote computer on which you installed Enterprise Filter to make changes to the software settings on that computer. This may be a computer in your office, or the headmaster's workstation.

Reports and controls

Enterprise Filter makes it possible to monitor what your school's computers have been used for:

Statistics and History: This feature allows you to see at a glance which sites have been visited by students, and which programs have been run.

Screen: This feature allows you to record screen captures or videos at regular intervals to check whether students' activities are appropriate and report potential issues to teachers. This may also be used to check the progress of a learning project.

Keyboard: This feature allows you to display all keyboard strokes entered by students in order to view searches performed in search engines and messages exchanged, or to display essays written by students.

Remote control: This feature allows you to monitor computers on which Enterprise Filter is installed from a local area network computer or via the Internet.

Authorizations: If one of your students wants to access blocked content, he/she may submit a request by clicking on the corresponding button. You will then have the opportunity to unblock or not the related application or website, based on its educational interest.

Software license:

The Enterprise Filter license is valid for 1 year. After that, you many continue to use Enterprise Filter but you will no longer be able to receive updates. To take advantage of the latest updates for the filtering engine, white lists and enhancements, you will have to renew your license.
